Nylon Outrigger Pads for Powered Access & Lifting Equipment For Hire
Nylacast Big Foot® Nylon Crane Pads and Outrigger Pads provide a high-performance load spread solution for cranes, MEWPs, spider lifts, concrete pumps and other lifting equipment.
Manufactured from an advanced impact-modified PA6/PA12 nylon blend, they offer superior strength, ductility and dimensional stability compared to pads made solely from PA6 or polyethylene alternatives. This enhanced material resists shock loading, remains tough at low temperatures, and delivers exceptional compressive performance to maintain stability on soft or uneven ground.
Lightweight, durable, non-conductive and weather-resistant, these pads are ideal for demanding site environments. Our range includes a selection of square and round formats, all available for hire nationwide with reliable UK-wide delivery.

The most common pads use UH-MWPE or HDPE, but both fall short of the structural performance delivered by Nylacast Big Foot® Outrigger Pads. When load spread matters, material stiffness is critical—our nylon blend keeps deflection in check and stability high.

Tensile Strength Comparison
Higher numbers = stronger, stiffer pads

They spread the load of the outrigger over a larger surface area, reducing ground pressure and preventing sinking or damage to the ground.
They help maintain equipment stability, especially on soft or uneven terrain.
By preventing outrigger slippage and ground failure, they enhance operational safety.
Resistant to cracking, splintering, and corrosion.
Easier to handle and transport compared to steel or wood.
Performs well in wet, cold, or hot conditions.
Safer for use around electrical equipment.
Most if not all Nylon outrigger pads are solely made from PA6, also known as Polymide 6 or Nylon 6.
Nylacast Big Foot® outrigger pads are manufactured from an impact modified blend of PA6 and PA12 so therefore fundamentally different, and should not be confused with pads made Soley form PA6 Nylon.
The Nylacast Big Foot® custom formulation contains a specific blend of additives that enable an increased ductility of the material through the use of both the impact modification and plasticisation of the PA6 material.
This offers a resistance to shock loading, increased flexibility without compromising compressive capability and improved creep resistance and performance at lower temperatures (where standard PA6 grades would become more brittle in comparison).
PA6 is known to absorb a significant amount of moisture (up to 3–4%), which can cause swelling and a degradation of mechanical properties in humid environments. PA12, by contrast, absorbs much less water (around 0.3–0.5%), so blending it with PA6 significantly improves dimensional stability for parts used in damp conditions.
PA12 has a longer carbon chain, giving it greater flexibility and impact resistance, especially at lower temperatures. This toughness helps offset the higher stiffness and strength of PA6, creating a more balanced and durable material.
Tailored mechanical properties: The final properties of the blend can be customised by adjusting the ratio of PA6 to PA12. For example, a blend with more PA6 will be stiffer and stronger, while a blend with more PA12 will be more flexible and impact-resistant. This allows for fine-tuning the material to specific application requirements.
PA6 is significantly more economical than PA12. Blending the two polymers is a cost-effective strategy to achieve a high-performance material that combines the best characteristics of both, avoiding the higher costs associated with pure PA12 or specialised polymers like PA612.
Improved chemical resistance: While both PA6 and PA12 have good chemical resistance, the PA6/PA12 blend can offer very good resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including oils and fuels. This makes it suitable for demanding industrial and automotive applications.
