Behind the Scenes: The Making of ALIMATS® – From Belgium to Your Job Site
ALIMATS® is a leading brand of interlocking mat modules for cranes and powered access. Their brand colour is yellow, which we paint in a non-slip powder coating before adding ALIMATS® in black stencil – like this one here.
Sometimes though, we like to show you the modules unpainted so you can see they are manufactured from Aluminium – just like this set.
For customers who want to buy their own set of ALIMATS® we’ll offer to paint them in their company colours and add their logo – here’s a set we painted for Dewsbury and Proud.
The ALIMATS® system is based on an extruded truss design. The modules are made using only renewable energy by our excellent manufacturing partner in Belgium from responsibly sourced Aluminium billets. So why Belgium? They have the world’s largest extrusion press outside of America and China. The raw profile is produced in 3.480m lengths (the length of our longest module) which we cut down to size on demand when they arrive in the UK.
ALIMATS® has green credentials. The modules are shipped with a Product Declaration Certificate for sustainability, verifying production of the modules from a recycled low carbon Aluminium billet – and CO2 per-life-cycle stage analysis. Our Belgium partner has ISO accreditations 9001, 14001 and 45001.
When the raw profiles arrive in our yard we cut and size the modules depending on demand and new client orders who want to buy their own sets, which improves our stock efficiencies. We then arrange with local suppliers to weld on the end plates, and paint them before adding the handles, ID plate and stencilling. In their finished state ALIMATS® are classed as UK origin.
The ALIMATS® range is available as 0.33m² to 8.07m² configurations and used under cranes and powered access on diverse projects from remote wind farms in Scotland, to the London underground and naval ships, as propping systems in the construction of nuclear submarines and as vehicle trackways over roads and private grounds.
